HOUSTON, June 23,
2004 -- GlobalSantaFe Corporation (NYSE: GSF) and
Randy Smith Training Solutions (RSTS) today announced
that their behavior-based FOCUS safety course won
a Platinum award
at the 37th Annual WorldFest Houston International
Film Festival and earned a finalist honor at the 25th
Annual Telly Awards.
"This award-winning video is an example of our
commitment to safety and the proactive approach
to safety training that occurs throughout our worldwide
operations," said Marion Woolie, senior vice president
of operations at GlobalSantaFe. "We have worked
throughout 2004 without incurring a single lost
time incident in our offshore operations in the
US, Canada, South America, Africa and SE Asia. Overall,
GlobalSantaFe has worked more than 10 million man
hours world wide while achieving an all time low
lost time incident rate of 0.11 per 200,000 man
hours." RSTS is a leading worldwide provider of
behavior-based safety, leadership, experiential,
and technical training. "These awards demonstrate
Randy Smith Training Solutions' continued commitment
to providing quality, leading edge, behavior-based
safety training. The key to this type learning is
moving safety from a person's mind to their heart.
Last year we delivered training to 17,000 people
in 31 countries and 11 languages, and although
we worked with a multitude of cultures, the bottom-line
is nobody wants to get hurt. For a company to be
successful, safety must be a core value, rather
than a priority, because unfortunately priorities
change," said Greg Anderson, president and chief
operating officer of RSTS. "FOCUS is more than behavior
based safety," explains GlobalSantaFe's vice president
of safety and training, Rick McClaine. "It is a
process of actively engaging every GlobalSantaFe
employee in the safety process, which results in
injury free operations."
The video, directed by Locke Bryan Productions,
earned the Platinum award in the film/video production-safety
first aid category and the Telly Award in safety.

RANDY SMITH DRILLING SCHOOLS (RSDS) - In
an ongoing effort to present the best in training
for the oil and gas industry, Randy Smith Training
Schools recently began offering Well Intervention
Pressure Control, a new program implemented by the
U.K./European oil industry through the International
Well Control Forum (IWCF). RSTS has been accredited
to offer this new IWCF program in all of its U.S.
training centers which are located in Lafayette,
Louisiana; Houston, Texas; and Jackson, Mississippi.
The first test session conducted by Randy Smith
Training Schools was on June 26, 1988, at the Lafayette
Training Center.
The Well Intervention Pressure Control program
addresses specific information for oil industry
personnel directly involved in Well Servicing operations.
Because this IWCF certification can now be done
in the U.S. rather than only overseas, training
is more convenient for those living in the U.S.
and more economical for companies that require it
for their employees who work in the U.K. or North
Sea. The course is conducted as a five-day class
with four days of preparatory work and one day of
testing. Offered at two levels, the written testing
covers coiled tubing, snubbing, and wireline operations,
and can be taken as individual options or as a combined
option of all three areas. The time requirements
would be two and one-half hours for the combined
Equipment test or one hour for each Equipment option,
and one and one-half hours for the written Principles
and Procedures. Traveling schools are available
and can accommodate and benefit many more companies
worldwide.
Along with other well control courses offered by
RSTS which are accredited by MMS, IWCF, IADC, and
the newly formed alliance of IAWC, Well Intervention
Pressure Control classes are offered beginning each
Monday. This class is taught Monday through Thursday
with testing conducted on Friday. Call 800.492.9355

worldwide provider of technical training for the
oil and gas industry, was notified today that they

to administer IAWC (International Alliance for Well
Control) course and certification in their Lafayette
and Houston based Centers. Randy Smith Drilling
Schools is the first training school to be recognized

Smith Drilling Schools said, "We are excited about
this because a student can get certified now through
one well control class to work in several areas

IAWC is an International certification Alliance
between IADC (International Association of Drilling

oilfield courses. Training now has been expanded
to the catering, construction, and for administrative
and office staff. Through the dedication and hard
work of the entire training staff, they continue
to satisfy their customers training needs. The class
format for all is based on team building that improves
communication skills and heightens their awareness
of potential downtime problems.
"We believe the investment you make in the training
of your personnel will reduce costs and make for
a safe, smooth running operation. Our commitment
now, as it has always been, is to provide quality
training services to industries throughout the world."
